How To Keep Pets Safe This Thanksgiving

When everyone sits down for Thanksgiving dinner your furry family members are going to be begging for a taste of what you are eating. You can include your pets, but be aware that not all Thanksgiving foods are safe for your pets. • Turkey and other meats should be boneless and cooked.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Clear The Air does all their product assembly and shipping at Partnerships With Industry (PWI). Since October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we would like to share what PWI does for our community.The following information is from Partnerships With Industry’s website and their October Newsletter.

It is PWI’s mission to successfully create win-win partnerships between San Diego County businesses and adults with disabilities who want to work. PWI clients have a wide range of intellectual, developmental, and/or other disabilities; however, at PWI, we like to focus on their many ABILITIES rather than disabilities.

Here is the impact that PWI is making on the community:

• We serve 750 adults with disabilities daily

• We employ 1,000 adults with disabilities annually

• We have a staff of 118, 70 of whom are Employment Training Specialists (aka job

coaches)

• Our oldest client is 72 years young

• Our youngest client is 18 years old

• 100% of those we serve were unemployed prior to coming to PWI

Across the US 77% of adults with development disabilties are unemployed. PWI and our amazing staff are working against that statistic every day, to help adults with developmental disabilities let their many ABILITIES shine and prove to everyone that they are more than capable of employment.

Go Green In Your Home With Simple Changes

How “green” is your home?

There are simple changes you can make in your home to become more green. Clear The Air would like to share a few simple tips on how to impact the environment in a positive way.

• Change your light bulbs. Trade out those incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs which save energy.
• Use energy-efficient appliances. If you need to replace an appliance, replace it with an appliance that has an Energy Star label to save energy and money. You may be eligible for a tax credit when you use energy-efficient appliances in your home.
• Wash full loads of laundry and dishes. Waiting until you fill your washing machine and dishwasher before you run them will save energy, water, and power.
• Recycle those old electronics instead of throwing them away in the trash. Chemicals and heavy metals from electronics that are thrown away just sit in the ground.
• Pull the plug on your electronics. Even after you turn your TV off it continues to use power if it is still plugged in. By unplugging it, you can save energy and money.
• Get your food from local farmer’s market. You will not only have fresher produce, but you will save on the energy and fuel costs when you buy your produce at local farmer’s markets.
• Fix your leaky faucets immediately. A leaky faucet or shower can waste gallons of water a day which not only a waste of our water resources, it is also money down the drain.
